Today is the Chinese New Year. It’s the Year of the Monkey, and over the next several days there will be celebrations in cities around the world. If you’re planning on having a child this year, you can count on them being “mischievous, playful, clever, and curious.”

(The Los Angeles Times has a cool matchmaking zodiac tool that will tell you what animal corresponds with your birth year, the traits associated with that year, and who you’re compatible with.)


To kick off the Chinese New Year, we went down to Chinatown in downtown Los Angeles for the midnight celebration.

It was my second year attending, and it was loud, smoky, and a lot of fun. Basically they have some dancing Chinese dragons, fireworks, and a lot of incense.


If you’re going to be anywhere near a Chinese New Year celebration over the next few days, go check it out. But if not, here’s one more vine of what it looked like this weekend in LA:
