I recently visited Ephesus, Turkey, which is an entire city of ancient Roman ruins. And cats.
The cats are everywhere, and unlike many felines who live in the wild, the cats at Ephesus are super friendly.
Many of the cats have bright gold eyes, like this guy who jumped into my lap when I was taking a picture:
Ephesus is famous as the home of the Ephesians, of New Testament fame.
And here is a gif of a cat.
This cat spends her free time in Ephesus’ main square.
This cat was looking into an ancient foundation when he met with Tripping Over The World.
This cat had just finished a visit to the library when we crossed paths:
Here is Amphitheater Cat:
And Green Eyed Cat:
This cat preferred not to give his name:
This cat gave Ephesus a four out of five on Yelp.
This guy was feeding the cats and, though there was a bit of a language barrier, he told me there were 50 cats “here.” It was unclear if “here” meant in his immediate vicinity, or at Ephesus generally.
