The eastern half of the U.S. is experiencing almost unbelievably cold temperatures. Buffalo, New York — the nearest big U.S. city to the falls — has seen particularly punishing winter weather lately.
All of this means that Niagara Falls is currently surrounded by incredible ice formations. The video above was shot on Feb. 20, 2015 (today) using a drone to fly over the falls, and shows those formations in striking detail.
This isn’t the most extreme weather Niagara has experienced; over 100 years ago it was so cold an ice bridge actually formed between the U.S. and Canada. But in any case, the winter of 2015 will definitely go down in history as a memorable one.
